Putting the Power of the Sun in Your Wallet!

At Solar Energy Sense, an important part of our job is making sure that you receive all of the grants, tax incentives, and other renewable energy income you are entitled to.

We manage all of the necessary paperwork for:

  • Applying to your utility company for a "net meter"which will enable you to send the energy you generate and don't use into the power grid.  Net metering is now the law in Massachusetts and generally your utility company will pay you in credits towards future use. If your credits accummulate, you will receive payment from your utility.

  • The Massachusetts Renewable Energy Trust (MRET) and a program known as "Commonwealth Solar" which offers rebates for the design & construction of customer-sited solar photovoltaic energy systems. Projects must be located at residences and businesses that are connected to an investor-owned electric utility.  Rebates can be as much of 50% of the cost of your system.

in addition we advise you of potential tax savings currently availlable for solar installations. We recommend you consult with your accountant regarding taking advantage of these tax incentives:

  • An Investment Tax Credit available through The Emergency Economic Stabilization Act of 2008 extended a 30% Investment Tax Credit for the next 8 years for the purchase and installation of a solar photovoltaic systems. This tax credit significantly improves the payback and rate of return on any solar project.

  • The American Recovery and Reinvestment Acot of 2009 established a federal grant program where taxpayers may opt for a Renewal Energy Grant from the U.S. Treasury Department instead of taking the Investment Tax credit.

  • The Massachusetts State Tax Incentives is a 15% state income tax credit for the cost of a residential, renewable energy system. The maximum limit to the credit is $1,000 and can be carried over for three years.

  • In Massachusetts, Residential PV systems are exempt from sales and property taxes.

Solar Renewalable Energy Certificates (SREC)s represent and convey the environmental and other non-power attributes of one megawatt-hour of solar electricity generation.

Recently, the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources mandated that utilities companies gnerate a specific number of megawatt -hours every year from Solar Electricity. Known as the "solar carve out" utility companies will need to purchase SRECs to fulfill this mandate, creating a stable market with a generous financial return.

Solar Electrical System owners who generate SRECs are guaranteed a
reliable annual income by participating in the SREC market.
